W.W.J.T. (What would Jesus Tweet?)

It’s obvious that our world has changed and a large portion of that change has been brought about by social media. Just for the record, I love twitter. Never in history has there been such a free and open exchange of information, insight and inspiration. Every day I spend at least a few moments reading my favorite blogs, learning new creative ways to minister and comparing insights from some of the greatest minds in both evangelical and secular circles. I know some would disagree, but I’m convinced Jesus would tweet if he was here physically as He was during His earthly ministry. As I recently pondered this idea my mind naturally drifted to the obvious question…What would Jesus tweet? Here are a few thoughts on perhaps what His posts would look like.

Tweet # 1- JUST GOT INTO IT WITH SOME PHARISEES, WHAT’S UP WITH THESE GUYS?

Jesus constantly had issues with religious spirits and confronted them often. He was offended by people whose spiritual pride obscured their love for hurting and hopeless people. In Matthew 12 Jesus encounters a man with a deformed hand and heals him. He is castigated by the pharisees for helping a hopeless man simply because it was the sabbath. They completely lost sight of the reason for true ministry simply because it challenged traditions that they held dear. They worshipped the law more than the lawgiver, and became blinded to the real mission in front of them. JESUS CAME FOR HURTING AND HOPELESS PEOPLE. I pray I never lose sight of this.

Tweet # 2- JUST GOT NEWS MY GOOD FRIEND LAZARUS DIED 4 DAYS AGO……..I’M GOING ANYWAY.

I don’t care what you are going through, with God it is never to late for a turn around. Our futile minds are so limited by earthly logic and reasoning that we constantly forget that we aren’t dealing with a mere human here….WE ARE WALKING, SERVING AND CONNECTED TO THE CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE. The reality of that knowledge alone changes everything for me. Death never scared Jesus because He ultimately knew that death served Him. It’s the reason He tells us in His word some 365 times in scripture to “Fear not.” Thats not coincidence. Every day of the calender year God says “Don’t worry, I got this, just trust me.” You may think like Lazarus’ friends it’s too late, but don’t believe it…HE’S THE MASTER OF THE COMEBACK!

Tweet # 3- PLEASE PRAY WITH ME, I’M STRUGGLING WITH THE HARDEST DECISION I’VE EVER HAD TO MAKE

I cannot read the account of Jesus’ struggle in Gethsemane without it tearing my heart out. I sense his loneliness and heaviness. As a leader and Pastor I can identify with times when decisions that only you can make bring a sense of isolation to your life. The fact that we were the reason for His suffering contributes to the sorrow I feel for my savior. NEVER FORGET IT WAS FOR YOU. Sometimes when life gets us low we ask ourselves “Does anybody even care if I’m hurting?” All you have to do is open the word, close your eyes and take a stroll to the garden. Watch Him agonize over you. See His anguish as He wrestles over dying the most brutal death ever or losing YOU forever. I love Him so much because He first loved US in way that could never be articulated.

Tweet # 4- I’VE MADE MY DECISION. THIS WILL BE MY LAST POST FOR A WHILE BUT DON’T WORRY, I’LL TWEET FROM THE OTHER SIDE SOON.

To say His courage is Legendary would be the understatement of all time. The Bible makes no bones about His ultimate supremacy. He is the captain of our salvation, the King of the jungle and the undisputed heavy weight champion of Love. The pain didn’t stop Him and death could not hold Him. When I was a kid we sang hymns and one we sang often held these words..” Because He lives I can face tomorrow, because he lives all fear is gone, because I know he holds the future and life is worth the living…..JUST BECAUSE HE LIVES”  No matter what’s going on in your life, know this….HE IS ALIVE AND WELL AND WATCHING OVER YOU. Perhaps no piece of information is more valuable than this.
